Is your goal for next year to have a baby? Here are the ideal options for you

A new year brings new dreams.

And if one of your biggest goals is having a baby, now is the perfect time to learn about your fertility options.

Before choosing any treatment, the most important step is scheduling a fertility evaluation.

During this consultation, your specialist will determine which treatment best matches your medical and reproductive history.

1. The fertility evaluation: where everything begins

Your first appointment includes:

  • Vaginal ultrasound to assess your antral follicle count

  • Review of menstrual cycles and ovarian reserve

  • Medical and reproductive history

  • Discussion about how long you’ve been trying

  • Semen analysis and DNA fragmentation for the male partner

Only after this evaluation can a proper recommendation be made.

2. Intrauterine insemination (IUI): a simple and effective option

IUI places prepared sperm directly inside the uterus during ovulation to increase the chances of fertilization.

Best suited for:

  • Patients without tubal ligation

  • Young women with patent fallopian tubes

  • Mild male factor infertility

  • Irregular ovulation

  • Couples trying for a short period of time

When is IUI no longer recommended?

If you have undergone four IUI attempts without success, the next best step is in vitro fertilization (IVF).

After four cycles, IUI success rates decrease, and IVF becomes significantly more effective.

 3. In vitro fertilization (IVF): ideal in many cases

IVF is recommended when:

  • Tubes are tied or blocked

  • More than 4 failed IUIs

  • Moderate or severe male factor infertility

  • Endometriosis

  • Low ovarian reserve

  • Recurrent miscarriage or implantation failure

  • Age over 35

IVF may be recommended even with healthy tubes depending on the evaluation.

4. What if your tubes are tied?

IUI is not an option in this scenario.

IVF is the only effective treatment because fertilization happens outside the body and the embryo is placed directly into the uterus.

If your dream for the upcoming year is to welcome a baby, there are multiple fertility options available.

But everything starts with a proper evaluation.

Understanding your diagnosis is the key to choosing the treatment that gives you the highest chance of success.

Your dream is possible — and the first step is closer than you think.
